Shannon Protection Alliance

You are invited to a meeting of the Limerick Branch (in formation) of the Shannon Protection Alliance. The Shannon Protection Alliance (SPA) was established as a response to proposals by Dublin City Council to extract water from the river Shannon at a rate of some five million litres per day, and to pipe it directly to Dublin for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumption.

The SPA is completely opposed to any such interference with these waters, as it will signal the death knell of Irelands premier water course, with untold consequences for its ecological, environmental, recreational, tourism, and commercial health.

Branches of the SPA already exist in Athlone and Lough Derg, and the Limerick branch is being established to join in the campaign to prevent these proposals from gaining official approval. The initial task of the Limerick branch will be to create a greater awareness of the proposals, and their full implications, than exists at the moment, and thereafter to plan appropriae measures of active opposition.

The meeting will take place in the Kilmurray Lodge Hotel on Wednesday July 21, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.
